  1. At The Mack
    • Music: B. Sorensen ... Lyrics: M. Ross, P. Danyluk, K. MacDonald
    • Solos: Barrie, Perry & Alan
    • This tune takes its title from the MacKenzie Theatre at Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. This was the location for the band's very successful steady engagement throughout the summer of 1999. At the Mack was composed by Barrie Sorensen with lyrics by Mike Ross and two of Mike's dinner theatre colleagues, Paula Danyluk and Kevin MacDonald. An upbeat tune, At the Mack is jive friendly - and it gives an overview of the bandmembers (albeit an unauthorized version!)

  2. The Night I Died on Chestnut Street
    • Music: B. Sorensen ... Lyrics: M. Ross
    • Solo: Mark
    • Chestnut Street brings to mind the era of film noir - private detectives and gangsters, lots of fog. It tells a dark story of a man who confronts his ex-wife's abusive beau - only to find that he is dealing with a more dangerous person than he suspected. Deryl's walking bass sets the tune which features Mark on the flugelhorn in a haunting solo.

  3. Purple Haze
    • Music & Lyrics: Jimi Hendrix
    • Solos: Mark, Jonathan, Mike & Barrie
    • A swinging tribute to the late great Hendrix, Mike Ross' blazing arrangement opens with dissonant bass trombone and tenor sax shots. The trumpet and alto sax state the first riff. After the boogiewoogie piano vamp all hell breaks loose.

  4. Drunk
    • Music: B. Sorensen & M. Ross ... Lyrics: M. Ross
    • Solo: Barrie
    • Drunk is best described as a mambo with a funky streak. The opening trumpet lick is the germ that becomes the melody of the chorus; except the chorus is half as fast as the beginning (using eighth notes instead of sixteenths.) The lyrics depict the story of addiction and recovery from drug and alcohol dependency.

  5. Spoon for a Knife
    • Music: B. Sorensen ... Lyrics: M. Ross, P. Danyluk, K. MacDonald
    • Solos: Mark & Barrie
    • Man meets woman, woman insane. Man saved from untimely death by removal of same woman to mental institution, now she uses a... A slow swing tune featuring a harmon-muted trumpet solo that would make Miles proud. Barrie rips on the tenor sax.

  6. That'll Do for Now
    • Music & Lyrics: M. Ross
    • Solos: Mike & Bob
    • Featuring Mike on the piano in a style reminiscent of either Ray Charles or Schroeder from Peanuts. After the rhythm section joins in you hear a rarity - a 32 bar bass trombone solo by Jive Kings trombonist and leader, Bob Nicholson.

  7. Another Day
    • Music: B. Sorensen
    • Solos: Barrie, Bob, Mark & Perry
    • Barrie had planned on writing lyrics - but he's more the strong silent type. After coming up with some interesting combinations of instruments to play the melody, lyrics seemed unnecessary. Straight Basie all the way, Another Day opens with a flute & cup-muted bass trombone playing the melody - only to be joined twelve bars in with a muted trumpet. The result takes you right back to a 1960's cocktail lounge.

  8. Copacabana
    • Music: Barry Manilow ... Lyrics: B. Sussman, J. Feldman
    • Solo: Alan
    • One of the Jive Kings' most popular covers at live engagements. We were afraid of fan revolt if it wasn't included on the CD.

  9. Press 2 for 'Oh Yeah!'
    • Music: B. Sorensen ... Lyrics: M. Ross, B. Nicholson
    • Solos: Mike, Bob, Jonathan & Perry
    • Press 2 began its life as Cap'n Crunch - literally singing the praises of the band's favorite breakfast food. Fearing legal action from cereal brands trashed in the original lyrics, it was decided that a new idea was needed. So now, you have the Jive Kings answering machine message. (If you ask nicely, they may be able to play Cap'n Crunch for you at gigs.)
